Medical supplies reduced 20% for a heartfelt savings of $225,000 a year

$1.25 Million spent on medical supplies

A group of 45 cardiovascular physicians concerned about future reductions in Medicare Part B reimbursement turned to Expense Reduction Analysts (ERA) to help identify savings in one of their largest core spend areas. The group spent more than $1.25 million annually on medical, surgical and laboratory supplies for its patients at multiple physician and ancillary service sites.

ERA Consultants achieved savings through a combination of improvements to ordering systems, standardization among multiple sites and in depth knowledge of the distributor/GPO relationship. Importantly, all adopted recommendations followed physicians’ existing preferences.

Funds used to ensure continued savings

The client will apply the savings to fund a staff position responsible for purchasing supplies, equipment and pharmaceuticals. The new hire and ERA Consultants will help ensure that the medical institution achieves all identified savings.

ERA expertise in the medical field

Consultants with ERA, whose expertise includes running research facilities and consulting in the health care industry, teamed up to find ways to reduce the medical facilities’ selected core costs.

ERA Consultants have experience with cardiovascular diagnostics, therapeutics, biotech, drug testing, ophthalmology, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, research and health care operational finance. Several hold Ph.D.s and many are CPAs.
