Funds for Goodwill of the Heartland programs and services go up $274,000

Goodwill of the Heartland is a nonprofit organization with a mission to advance the social and economic well-being of people who experience barriers to independence. The organization encompasses a 19-county region in southeast Iowa and western Illinois and its facilities include two administrative offices, a distribution center and 12 retail stores.

Almost 90 percent of Goodwill’s $20 million revenue is used to fund community programs. The extra funds found by Expense Reduction Analysts (ERA) means the nonprofit can provide more educational and career services to the people it serves.

Nothing to lose - but much to gain

“I wasn’t sure that ERA could really help us, but I figured we had nothing to lose and much to gain,” explained Tammi Erb, CFO of Goodwill of the Heartland. “When Consultants negotiated Merchant Card fees with the incumbent supplier that reduced costs 25%, I knew I wanted them to keep going.”

Keep going they did. To date, Consultants have reduced expenses for cell phones (17%, plus the recovery of $2,000 in billing errors); media buys (68%); fleet management (15%); courier services (9%); waste management (21%); and insurance, including improved property/casualty coverage (at a 43% savings).

“It didn’t take me long to start appreciating the professionalism and innovative approaches ERA Consultants pursued — plus, of course, the great results they produced,” said Erb.
