Health Club Slims Down Cleaning Costs

Trimming the Fat is Not Always Easy

The client is a large, private Health Club in the Northwest, catering to the most demanding members. Since 1930, the Club has always maintained the highest standards of sanitation and cleanliness.

Like many businesses in the past few years, economic conditions forced the Club to carefully review all costs for potential savings. Prior to ERA’s engagement, they reduced cleaning services to lower the monthly cost of cleaning, assuming that their long-time Cleaning Service Provider had already done what they could do to find opportunities to CUT costs.

Should They Sacrifice More Service?

Despite previous efforts at reducing expenses more cuts were needed, so the client asked ERA’s experts to review Cleaning Services expenditures.  ERA worked with the client to develop a Scope of Work that would meet the demanding requirements of the Club and maintain the high standards expected by club members.

ERA’s analysis of current products and methods identified several opportunities for process improvements and cost reduction without sacrificing service or quality, while maintaining established facility standards. To remain competitive, the incumbent provider also introduced new technology that would both reduce costs and improve the results for the client.

The client made the choice to forego more significant savings with new providers in order to retain the long term relationship with their incumbent service provider.

Would the improved technology have been introduced without ERA? This much can be certain, the client has improved the results and has an additional $86,000 in annual savings to go with it.

Cost was reduced by $86,000 with improved cleaning results.
